Gradually; Or, How To Fix Sitting At The Gym

3/2/2026

Sitting at the gym is actually an important signal, that your workout is not working out, because you are pushing too hard.

You may not feel like 15 seconds of lifting is too hard, but it is, it is the wrong way to start - sets and reps are a myth.

Before we start let me say this to you, there are many workouts, but only the ones you can psychologically handle can ever work.

Psychological handling, at the gym,

Initially means narrated books, it could mean VR headset if you are hip, and then not just music, not at all, no, no, no – gym music is very bad.

And your own songs must be interesting, must make you want to dance, and must be at the right beats per minute, so that you can lift to them.

Outside of the gym, psychological handling, hiking and jogging an in naturally wooded areas not fake parks.

Once you pamper yourself psychologically, you then have to be good to yourself physically.

At the gym that means walking with wrist-weights, and narrated books, upgrading to walking stairs and then slow jogging, maybe with ankle weights.

And making your way up to an hours worth of motion, unbelievably, with an actual stopwatch in your hand.

Your body adapts with mathematical precision, you always aim to go a little bit longer.

You may wish to look into interval times, that automate counting rest and workout periods.

But the point of an interval timer is so eliminate the rest gaps, so that you exercise non-stop for an hour.

Outside of the gym, being good to yourself physically, means you start by walking for an hour, with narrated books.

And slowly speed up, adding some weights, so that once you are ready to sign up for a gym.

You will already have your hour’s worth of endurance, prom power walking with perhaps even 5lb dumbells.

At the gym you can lift them above your head, and you must dance to simulate the powerwalk.

The gym is useful because it never rains, and you can lift ever heavier as your body adapts without tripping over.

As to the machines at the gym, that is muscle isolation, which means you will be missing muscles as a result of using them.

I once considered using a machine when my back was hurt, but then I discovered micro-dancing.

Which reduced by backs recovery time to just a couple of days, that may be a charlie-horse, from an electrolyte imbalance caused by sweating.

No machines, even if your doctor told you walking is bad, you still don’t use a machine, you use a pool where you can take the weight off.

If all you can do, is walk 10 steps, that means, you focus on measuring, how long it tales you to rest to walk 10 steps again.

And then repeat this exercise, until your body has adapted, to walk a few more steps, and that s called fitness and bodybuilding.

What you can do, is the starting point, what you do next is repeat, repeat until your body adapts to do more.

It is another myth, when people think to themselves, “Oh, I can only do 10 steps, I better sit and use the machines”

That is a negative workout that adds to your daily sitting, and will result in you being able to take less steps.

So you see what I mean, sitting at the gym is an important signal, and you have to focus on gently pushing your body forward so that it adapts.

This applies to young and old, you must add to your daily moving, not your daily sitting.

A young person sitting at the gym, is a sign they are lifting too heavy, and thus preventing themselves from adapting and lifting more.

As we get older, walking is our life line, there is no sitting when you are old, that then becomes a serious danger to your health.

If you can’t walk, you sign up for physical rehabilitation, and you do your excessive in a pool, couple of hours a day.

I recommend spending up to two months a year, section hiking great trails, like the Appalachian, Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide.

Through hiking requires up to two years, but you can spread that across a lifetime, or your golden age by section hiking.

You start in the beginning, reach a landmark, go home, and then return to where you walked off the trail, next year.

For those of you who say my job won’t let me do that, you have that backwards, you won’t make it healthy to retirement.

For those of you who say, my family would hate my guts.

They will hate you anyway, when you betray them, by taking back every joy you gave the, and die 40 years too early.

The world has cut into our health, because we didn’t know how important exercise was.

This does not mean that, this is just how things are now, it means you have to workout harder and more beautifully.

So that you pull others out of this dark age of fitness, and help them add not just years, but entire decades to their life.

Fight for it, old age is a great privilege denied to all too many,
