Enrolled! The Taphonomic Bias Story

I got very sad this weekend, because we are people without history, it has all rotted away.

We have been smart for up to 500,000 years, really good at hunting, good at toolmaking, but our groups were always small, heartbreakingly small.

Maybe we traveled in groups of 50, and were friends with 10 other groups, it would take 5 unfortunate deaths to wipe out the groups wisdom.

We were smart enough to rebuilt our wisdom, but sometimes, it might have taken thousands of years.

Some 900,000 years ago, we almost went extinct, we has as few as 1,000 breeding individuals.

Looking back at past 4 billion years, about 5 billion species might have existed, today only about 6-10 million exist, 2 million species formally described.

99% of Earth life went extinct, and in the history of thinking humans, we have lost all out knowledge many times over.

Wood tools, fiber technology, composite tools, adhesives, containers, nets and cordage…

All lost not to history, but to 500,000 years of pre-history, it rotted away, we have some shell fragments, mineralizes sticks.

The archaeologist in me, cried, and I would like to look deep into tarpits, to see if we can pull something up, in my dream, maybe a time capsule.

I believe the Carnac stones might have once been an atempt at a message, but the wise idea would have been destroyed by ritual.

The caves, are made by water, they rot everything away, they have a depth limit where stone plasticity prevents cracks from forming.

Everything from our past 500,000 years is gone, almost all of life, extinct.

If you believe that earth is thousands of years old, it is time to pack, and hit the trails.

If you are in the US, that means, the Appalachian, the Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide trails, they are far more holy now then ever.

It will take you two years to walk all three, and the main component, is not just narrated books written by great beings.

If you are not sitting down, better sit down for what you are about to hear.

You just have to ask your AI, once, a simple question, “Tell me about the world”.

And for the next two years of your walking, of your rejuvenation, of your authentic education, the AI will lovingly explain everything.

You will be humbled in ways, that you have never been humbled before.

In a way, this journey, represents coming home, to yourself.

Today, your educaion is largely fake, certainly ineffective.

You have to start packing, you have to get going, the moment AI becomes available to you live as a companion voice.

Maybe that is already available, maybe you are the adventure who builds this teaching company.

But the time is now, you are enrolled, find your way home, help others find theirs.
